Coffee (cup) inspiration: Coffeenotes™

At Tambia Coffee, we take seriously our impact in the environment. Our farms meet the high standards set in order to be Rainforest Alliance certified, providing trees and green environment for birds and ensuring we are keeping water sources clean for the local area. When we package and ship our coffee, we make a point to minimise our impact through sustainable packaging choices.

Do we have room to improve? Without a doubt - and so we are constantly looking for new ideas and ways to improve.  During a recent bit of trade show exploration - looking for such inspiration, we met kindred spirits in this journey for environmental consciousness and ongoing improvement in our friends at Coffeenotes.  They operate in a different part of the coffee value chain but a hugely significant one - turning coffee cup waste into beautiful stationary products.  We were so inspired that we wanted to share their purpose and story with our Tambia community.

Coffeenotes Sustainable Stationery

Coffeenotes make luxury sustainable stationery in Dorset, UK from {re}cycled coffee cups, and {re}purposed waste from food drink and textile processing;  their collections of carbon-neutral, luxury notebooks, planners, notepads, sketchbooks, and notecards are consciously crafted to minimise their impact on our planet.

Over 50 billion used coffee cups end up in landfill globally which is an ecological disaster.  Coffeenotes take a considered circular approach to the production of our stationery; the recycled coffee cups are collected and turned into luxury paper. This is done through the unique cupcycling process. Once Coffeenotes stationery has been used, it can be recycled, or composted in your household waste with absolutely nothing going to land fill.

About Coffeenotes™

In 1991 Coffeenotes™ founders Sarah and Mark established a print business in Dorset. Passionate about sustainability, they made recycling part of family life as they raised five boys while running a growing business. ‘I hate waste, so repurposing, upcycling and recycling have always been a family mission,’ says Sarah.

When lockdown temporarily shut the printing business in 2020, Mark and Sarah decided to use their experience in paper, print and design to create a genuinely sustainable, high-quality stationery range using UK and EU suppliers and based o a discovery that Mark had made five years earlier, a pioneering process called Cupcycling that transforms takeaway coffee cups into paper. The result is a stylish, robust writing paper; fountain pen-friendly and ideal for sketching.

Today Coffeenotes™ reflects the joy and sense of purpose that comes with sitting down with a cup of coffee and a blank notebook. The Coffeenotes™ name and the sizes (Grande, Medio, Piccolo) are a nod to the origins of the signature cream writing paper which remains at the heart of our products. Coffeenotes  aim to offer our customers genuinely sustainable stationery they can use every day. Design elements are simple and minimalist, balancing function and style. Layouts are understated and flexible, providing structure without being prescriptive.

We are huge fans, and expect you will be too!  Enjoy.
