Ask any coffee lover to name a country known for quality beans, and Colombia is almost always at the top of the list. But what actually makes Colombian coffee so special?
1. Ideal Growing Conditions
Colombia’s geography is a gift to coffee. With high altitudes, rich volcanic soil, stable temperatures, and ample rainfall, it provides everything Arabica coffee plants need to thrive.
Our farm, Hacienda La Sierra, sits on the slopes of the extinct volcano Cerro Bravo, where cool mountain air and nutrient-rich soil allow the beans to mature slowly—developing deeper sweetness and complexity.
2. A Culture of Craft
In Colombia, coffee isn’t just a crop—it’s a way of life. Generations of families, like ours, have dedicated themselves to cultivating coffee by hand. That means:
- Hand-picking only the ripest cherries
- Sorting with care
- Processing at home.
This attention to detail is what separates commodity coffee from true speciality.
3. Unique Flavour Profiles
Colombian coffees are known for their clean, well-balanced flavour, often with notes of:
- Red fruits
- Citrus
- Caramel
- Cocoa
- Florals (especially in rare varieties like Geisha or Pink Bourbon)
At Tambia, we grow distinct varietals like Castillo, Geisha, and Pink Bourbon, each processed and roasted to highlight their natural character.
From the juicy acidity of our Pink Bourbon to the soft florals of our Geisha, every cup tells a different story of Colombian terroir.
4. Full Traceability & Ethical Roots
Not all Colombian coffee is speciality—but the best is fully traceable and ethically grown.
At Tambia, we manage the entire process ourselves: ✔️ We grow the coffee on our family farm ✔️ We process it on site ✔️ We roast it in the UK ✔️ And we reinvest in our community through the Oro Molido Foundation, supporting education in rural Colombia
There are no middlemen. No shortcuts. Just transparency, quality, and care at every step.
So, What Makes Colombian Coffee Special?
✔️ The land ✔️ The climate ✔️ The people ✔️ The flavour ✔️ The culture of care
At Tambia, we honour all of that—and bring it to your cup, fresh from our farm. Have you tried our coffee?
